Dangers and Crime in Bangkok
Stealth crimes, such as pickpocketing, are the most common problem so it's worth keeping a close eye on your
belongings at all times and being somewhat wary of overly friendly strangers.
Unprovoked violent attacks against tourists are very rare, but nevertheless it pays to exercise common sense.

I have read several terrible reports of police corruption in Bangkok, particularly at the duty-free store in the airport. Has this been corrected? If so, when and how?
Thank you

As most people visiting Bangkok want to go and see MBK Shopping Centre they should be aware that the scammers are working this are as well.I have been to Bangkok about 17 times so I am aware of shopping hours and holidays. The scammers here work around Siam Square and the BTS near MBK shopping centre. They will approach you in the normal friendly Thai way and ask where you are going. When you say MBK they will inform you that it is not opening today until 4 or 5 pm and they that they know a better shopping centre.
Predictably they will get you in to a Tuk Tuk and send you to a place called Manhatten which is just an expensive Indian tailor shop.Just stick to your original plan and say you are going to MBK and you will wait until it opens. If all else fails just nod and walk away saying maeo khap(I dont want)

Please beware of a female scam artist operating at the Siam Paragon shopping Centre in Bangkok. She claims to be a Singaporian who has has her passport stolen and is waiting for a new one to be issued. She also claims the the embassy has given her no financial assistance while it takes 3 days to get a new passport issued!

Been to bangkok five times.safe as houses!
Like anywhere in the world, behave yourself and you`ll have no problem the Thais are very tolerant. look for trouble and you`ll get it big time. Enjoy Thailand and respect it`s citizens we are all ambassadors to our own countries.

Also be respectful of the King & the royal family. Showing respect to monks & act accordingly when visiting temples and places of worship. Thais are very friendly but do not take kindly to rude gestures or verbal disrespects to the King & his family.
