In Thai, the name of the each country is also an adjective to describe things from that country. The word อังกฤษ ang-grìt, for instance, can mean either "England" or "English". To unambiguously refer to the country itself you should add the word ประเทศ bprà-tâyt (meaning "country") before the country name. e.g. ประเทศอังกฤษ bprà-tâyt ang-grìt , "England".

The name of a country's language is ภาษา paa-săa + country name, and to describe someone's nationality you use คน kon "person" + country name. So the Thai word for "English" as in the English language is ภาษาอังกฤษ paa-săa ang-grìt, and an English citizen is a คน อังกฤษ kon ang-grìt.
